ALBUM REVIEW: MIDNIGHT FEATURE - "HEX RENTALS"
Midnight Feature are a "spooky rock'n'roll" band from Birmingham. Inspired by late night creature features and gothic tales of old. Their sound results in a frenzied mix of furious punk with horror rock'n'roll undertones. This is their debut album and it is titled "Hex Rentals".
At the first listening it makes you think of Misfits meets Ramones in some crazy horror story, but then the more you listen to it the less you hear it, and all that is left after a while is this unique sound that grows on you. After a while you can hear the story, you can see the story in your head.
The most fascinating thing about this album and this band is the fact that this is their first, their debut album. And it is so mature and well produced. I love the deep and dark vocal and musically you would never guess that this is their first one! They sound so "years on the scene", if you know what I mean...
Also, they are a bit more psychobilly then horror punk and what is a nice little surprise are cool effects on some of the songs.
Album is presenting 13 tracks ( of course!): "Final Girl", "Vampires and Other Creatures", "Night of the Demon", "Death Walks in High Heels", "Hellavision", "Saturday Night Fever Dream", "His & Hearse", "Satan's Night Out", "Let's All Do The Frankenstein", "Damned if You Do", "From The Grave", "Rite Here" and "Hex Rentals". Some songs are darker than others, some are more horror punk then others, but for me top three on this album are "Vampires and Other Creatures", "Death Walks in High Heels" and "Damned if You Do". I think these guys are heading in a good direction and I think we will hear more of them or from them in the future!
So go ahead, listen to this album (if you dare)! If you are in to horror punk, psychobilly and spooky rock'n'roll - this one is for you!
